Dr Shakespeare in Yosemite [She/Her]
Ecostage Pledger
Can you tell us something about yourself?
Shakespeare in Yosemite was founded by University of California, Merced professors Katie Brokaw and Paul Prescott in 2017 to bring short, accessible, and FREE productions of Shakespeare’s plays to Yosemite National Park for Earth Day and each April. Our shows are 90 minutes long, feature lots of music, and are adapted to address issues relevant to Earth Day and Yosemite. Casts are made up of UC Merced students, park rangers and Yosemite employees, and community members.
What was the turning point when you became ecologically aware and decided to take action?
Living in California's Central Valley, which has some of the USA's worst environmental injustices in terms of pollution, pesticide exposure, and public health disparities, while being two hours from the "iconic" Yosemite National Park, which is facing its own difficulties with increasingly long fire seasons and other climate-related emergencies.
