Can you tell us something about yourself?
Maria completed an MA in Performance Design at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (2021), during which time she was awarded the John Elvery prize to recognise Excellence in Stage Design. Previously Maria studied a BA in Writing Directing & Performance at the University of York (2014), before working nationally as a freelance scenic artist, designer and maker. Maria is a regular guest lecturer for Theatre Arts students at the University of Derby, and also for schools, youth theatres and community groups within the East Midlands and surrounding areas. Maria was Shortlisted for the Linbury Prize 2021.
What was the turning point when you became ecologically aware and decided to take action?
Maria has a particular interest in sustainable theatre-making, project creation and the devising process. She is part of East Midlands based collective B Team (est. 2016), who specialise in creating entertaining theatre about the environment that provokes conversation and change.
