My working life has incorporated many types of performance (theatre, film, television, opera, dance, street parades, music performance, theatre-in-education, pantomime, musicals, puppetry ...) and my knowledge and skills base includes –
- Costume design, interpretation, cutting, and construction: creatures, transformations, extensions and distortions; contemporary and period clothing; hats, wigs, jewellery and accessories - Masks in leather and other materials - Textile design, dyeing, embroidery and other embellishment techniques - Puppet/Performing Object design and construction; primarily large-scale, processional puppets - Prop and set design and construction - Wardrobe supervision, alterations and maintenance; dressing and continuity
I have over twenty years’ experience of working with Pre-Foundation, Foundation, BA and MA students in art and design (primarily at Central Saint Martin’s and other University of the Arts London colleges) in both academic and technical teaching roles, additionally devising and delivering several outreach projects with secondary school pupils. The areas of study covered during this time include performance design and practice, costume- and fashion design and making, pattern-cutting, textiles, fine art, drawing ...
