I am currently studying MA Theatre and Performance Design after studying Physics and Earth Sciences at Durham University at Undergraduate. I am near the beginning of what I hope will become my theatre design career but even so the productions I have designed have focussed on ways of creating costumes and sets with minimal new raw materials and experimenting with different ways of creating visuals that do not demand the volume of materials that they would if created in traditional ways.

I studied Physics and Earthsciences at undergraduate, through which I looked and studied graphs and data from geologic time that really emphasised to me the extent to which current warming is a threat to the planet. Coming from that into the theatre world, I felt that I couldn't ignore what I learnt so wanted to bring those ideas into my practice. Alongside that, I also saw a huge overuse of and disregard for materials used to produce theatre, which I wanted to combat through the way I design. When studying theatre design I saw very little teaching about ecologically aware design, so I took it upon myself to integrate this into my design, as I realised it would not come from anywhere else for me.
