Can you tell us something about yourself?
Working through performance, I've had the opportunity to explore the conceptual approach to storytelling poetically. I draw my inspiration from natural materials, having spent my childhood summers in the countryside back in Latvia. Having lived a lifestyle in synergy with nature, climbing trees, observing animals, running barefoot and eating raw, unprocessed food, I now reflect on this time in my life and work to bring it forward through my practice today. I aim to share an unspoilt, almost innocent outlook on our experience as humans between the busyness and distractions of everyday life, either using elements of nature as the basis of inspiration or working sustainably with materials, always keeping the materials cycle of life at the forefront.
What was the turning point when you became ecologically aware and decided to take action?
During my studies in the BA Design for Performance at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, I re-awakened my natural pull towards working sustainably while considering the importance of nature in my practice.
