Ms Ursula Troche [She/Her]
Can you tell us something about yourself?
I do visual art and I perform, mainly live art and my poetry / prose. My main project is Pick Up the Pieces also a migrant artist. I make varies video films, including a children's series made of toys made of plastic waste, called By the Beeby Sea. My youtube channel is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiFi0oUlvWP-vofB0sys7Bw
What was the turning point when you became ecologically aware and decided to take action?
I had an awareness from early on, and had joined Greenpeace whilst at school in the 1980s, but have not been a direct activist until I used my art as activism. I have been writing and performing poetry and prose, but then moved more and more into visual and performance art because it is more direct and immediate - I also produce 'alternative media', i.e. eco-based entertainment for children and adults. Being based on the coast, I pick up litter from both the beach and the street and use the waste I find for my art, both in making objects and making performance. My art activism is out a sense of desperation in a way, because doing nothing in our climate emergency would be impossible / unsustainable for our future.
