Ecostage Pledger
Can you tell us something about yourself?
Hello, I am the director/playwright of the Kinnari Ecological Theatre Project that has been producing and staging plays since 2010 all over Southeast Asia. I have been studying Southeast Asian Theatre for over 20 years, and written about it in Communities of Imagination: Contemporary Southeast Asian Theatres and in Sringara Tales (short stories about dancers in SE Asia). I have also written an essay about BIPAM 2019 that was online due to covid, but I am eager to return to Thailand and meet up with theatre artists again.
What was the turning point when you became ecologically aware and decided to take action?
I am a life-long vegetarian. I don't drive a car, only cycle and walk, and I recycle all my own waste--composting for the garden. I have loved birds since I was a child, and have lived with birds as housemates and neighbors, which is why I chose 'Kinnari' for the theatre project. Nature is the source of my drama. I have always tried to live lightly on the earth and admire people who do it better than I and who continue to be an inspiration for me. I am very happy to learn about this Ecostage. And by the way, I wish your system did not say 'Province of China.'
